Denver A City with A View

Located at the base of the Rocky Mountains, Denver is an area of natural beauty and wonder.  Known as the mile high city, for its proximity to sea level, Denver’s residents enjoy a mild climate, low humidity and an average of 300 sunny days per year.  In addition, because of its location and the benefit of the Chinook winds, it does not suffer the harsh winters seen by cities in the same latitude.  Average temperatures in July are around 73 degrees, while January is around 30 degrees.

Denver is home to a variety of cultural and sporting events.  The city plays host to eight professional sports teams including the Broncos (NFL), Rockies (MLB), Avalanche (NHL), Nuggets (NBA), Crush (Arena Football), Rapids (MLS), Mammoth (National LaCrosse), Outlaws (Major League LaCrosse). 

The arts also play an important role in the culture of the City.  The Denver Performing Arts Complex is the second largest of such facilities in the nation. It houses ten theaters, seating 10,000 people for fine art events such as opera, symphony, ballet and theatrical productions.  The city also has a wide range of museums including the Denver Art Museum, The Gates Planetarium, the Denver Museum of Science and Nature just to name a few. 

Economically speaking, Denver has outpaced the nation in employment growth since January of 2005.  The Denver Metro area added 26,000 jobs in 2006 with a planned 22,300 to be added in 2007.  The city, which has a current population around 910,770 increased in 2006 by 1.6%.  This was due largely to the increased employment opportunities.

The area is a nature lovers paradise offering 300 parks at a total of 5,100 acres.  In addition, there are 13,600 acres of mountain parks.  Denver is also home of the famous Denver Zoo which sees an average of 1.7 million visitors each year.  For biking or running enthusiasts, there are 100 miles of parkways.  And, 15 golf course keeps duffers busy honing their skills. 

Denver is among the smartest cities in the nation, with well over three quarters (79%) earning a high school diploma and just over one-third (35%) a Bachelor degree or higher.   In addition, the Denver Metro area has 19 school districts with a total student population of nearly 73,000.  The main theme in Denver’s schools is choice.  Open enrollment is available to all students in Denver Metro schools, which allows parents to choose the school and curriculum that most closely matches their students learning needs.

In addition to being an active and smart populous, Denver is also a young city, with an average age of 29. It has also been named the fittest city in the United States and has a relatively low cost of living as compared with comparable cities (73.8 vs. a base of 100).

Home prices in Denver are not among the lowest in the nation, however they are also not the highest.  Single family homes average $310,000 while Condo are about $194,000.  The median home price in the area is $213,068.

Traditional means of marketing real estate can be found in the area’s print media.  The Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post offer the broadest reach and largest circulation.  In addition, the two publications have joined forces to provide online coverage for real estate marketing (www.realestate.post-newsclassified). Another emerging online resource is Dbrealtors.org.  This site provides listings of some of Denver’s top realtors.
